Job Description
This role sits within Jarden's Data Strategy function, reporting to the Head of Data Strategy. It is primarily focused on the Equities Trading Desk in Sydney, with some contribution to the broader function which also supports Equities Research.
You will be embedded with the desk, responsible for the development and ongoing support of the WPF desktop application that underpins how the desk operates day-to-day. You will work closely alongside traders, observing workflows first-hand and translating that into continuous product improvement. You will also play a role in expanding AI capability on the desk.
This is a five-days-in-office role. The desk operates in a fast-paced environment with early starts, and your consistent presence is an important part of how you will add value.
Key responsibilities:
Maintain and develop the desk's WPF desktop application, delivering features and fixes with urgency appropriate to their impact on live trading
Build trusted relationships with desk users, originating improvements through direct observation of workflow rather than solely in response to requests
Expand AI capability on the desk through new applications, deeper integration of internal data, and evolving AI-assisted workflows
Provide data and dashboard support to the desk as needs arise
Contribute to broader Data Strategy initiatives, including research-side projects and other work across the equities platform
Desired Skills and Experience
You are a strong C# and .NET developer with solid WPF experience and a genuine interest in the business of equities and financial markets. You are comfortable working in a front office environment, and you bring the interpersonal skills and sound judgement that a high-expectations trading desk requires.
In addition, you have:
Strong command of C# and .NET, with the ability to design and ship features in a WPF desktop application end-to-end
Solid grasp of WPF fundamentals, including MVVM, data binding, and async UI patterns
Comfort working with Microsoft Azure as part of day-to-day development, including cloud-hosted services that the application depends on
Familiarity with integrating LLMs and AI tooling into applications, including APIs, prompt design, and the practical considerations of deploying AI in a production context
Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases at a level sufficient to investigate data, build queries, and understand how data flows through the application
Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, R, and Excel as supporting tools for desk work and data tasks
5 or more years of professional software development experience
Degree in computer science, software engineering or similar
Experience building and maintaining .NET WPF desktop applications
Experience working on or with an equities desk preferred; experience in other financial markets context will also be considered
Exposure to or experience with LLMs or AI tooling in a work context is preferred
In return, we can offer you a great company, team culture, and valuable deal experience within our growing firm.
